Fellowship Awards

Professor Samir Meghelli was awarded an Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities (IPRH) faculty fellowship for 2015-16 for his project "Between New York and Paris: A Transatlantic History of Race, Democracy, and Hip Hop." For more information on IPRH, click here.

 

Honors and Achievements

Professor Nora Stoppino has accepted to serve as the new Director of the Program in Medieval Studies beginning next August.

Molly Melching, (AB ’71, general curriculum; MA ’79, French) has been chosen to receive the 2015 University of Illinois Humanitarian Award. This prestigious award is presented to graduates whose outstanding leadership and service have significantly enriched the lives of others and the welfare of humanity. Melching was chosen for the honor by her fellow alumni/ae. For more information on this award, click here.

 

Conference and Other Presentations

Laurence Mall was invited to participate in a workshop on her work in progress on L.S. Mercier, theater and the Revolution in Professor Yann Robert's graduate seminar at UIC on February 4.

On February 20th, Dan Maroun was invited by the Chancellor and Provost's Committee on LGBT Concerns to speak about LGBT Mentorship and visibility.

Marcus Keller presented a paper entitled "The Nearsighted Renaissance: Images of the Far East in Sixteenth-Century France" at the international conference Reorienting Cultural Flows: Engagements between France and East/Southeast Asia, organized by the Winthrop-King Institute for French and Francophone Studies at Florida State University (2/26-28).

 

Upcoming Events

Priscilla Charrat will be co-organizing the "Screening Memories" documentary film series this semester. The first movie of the series will be Watchers of the Sky, which will be screening on March 3rd at 7pm in 160 English Building. For more information, click here.

 

Pause Café / Melanzana

The Pause Café, an informal French conversation hour, is held at Espresso Royale (Oregon and Goodwin) in Urbana. Meets every Thursday at 5:30pm. All are welcome!
