Alumni News and Achievements

Former student Joe R. Johnson (B.A., French and Medieval Studies) is one of the 2014 winners of The Medieval Journal’s essay prize. Joe’s essay, titled “Domestication and its Discontents”, explores the semantic and conceptual structures of Herbert’s Roman de Dolopathos (c. 1210). Joe is continuing his research and teaching in French Medieval literature and culture at NYU. Congratulations, Joe!

Former student Melinda Fricke (B.A., French and Linguistics) is staying in touch from Penn State’s Center for Language Science where she has been holding a postdoctoral position since 2013. Melinda (Ph.D., UC Berkeley) is researching how people acquire, store, and process the sounds of language. One of her papers has just been accepted in the Journal of Memory and Language. Congratulations, Melinda!

 

Pause Café / Melanzana

The Pause Café, an informal French conversation hour, is held at Espresso Royale (Oregon and Goodwin) in Urbana. Meets every Thursday at 5:30pm. All are welcome!
