It is a pleasure to announce that Professor Annie Tremblay has been awarded an appointment as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies next year. This award releases her from teaching for one semester so that she can pursue her project "Segmenting Speech into Words: What Eye Movements Can Tell Us about Foreign-Language Learning." Her use of eye-tracking technology rather than conventional auditory techniques advances our understanding of how second-language learners use liaison consonants in word-level processing and confirms the importance of associative learning in second-language acquisition.
This competitive, prestigious award brings honor to the Department, the School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, and the College.
The department would like to congratulate Jenelle Grant, who, having passed her preliminary exams, is now ABD! The title of her dissertation project is 'Maisons de Presse, Maisons de Passe: Narrating Prostitution and Literary Production in Nineteenth-Century Paris'
The GSF Ciné-club will be showing Être et avoir (2002), on Tuesday, February 1st at 8:00 pm in Lucy Ellis Lounge. All are welcome.
